How marketing and branding can help save the planet

Dr. Fridrik Larsen has written the definitive book on branding for sustainable energy companies. In Sustainable Energy Brands - Helping to Save the Planet, Larsen argues that marketing and branding in the energy sector (energy branding) are crucial to the energy transition and the fight against climate change. Saffron was happy to attend the book launch at the Embassy of Iceland in London, with participation from our co-founder and CEO Jacob Benbunan. As climate change and market liberalisation are prompting the world's power companies to transform on a scale never seen before, energy-sector giants are aiming to dramatically cut harmful emissions over the next few decades by introducing new business models as well as new ways of generating power. As the worlds foremost expert on energy branding, Larsen defines how developing new marketing and communication strategies for all areas of the sustainable energy transition are crucial to its success. These areas include renewable energy, sustainable growth, environmental protection, and supportive cooperation with energy consumers as well as political decision-makers.The book draws on in-depth interviews with 20 influential energy industry and branding executives including Saffron co-founder and CEO Jacob Benbunan.

Benbunan commented: Branding is about building relationships through authenticity, choice, service, and trust. Its about making a clear promise to serve a distinct purpose in society and delivering on it. Energy companies have the crucial remit to build an authentic experience of service for their customers and our planet, to engage people to be part of the sustainable solution together."

Larsen stated:Marketing and branding are often associated with the excesses of consumerism. But, the fact of the matter is that even the cleanest and most affordable energy technologies will struggle to find adopters if not marketed properly. Alternatively, it will take time to deploy and in the fight against climate change time is one thing that we don't have plenty of. Done responsibly, marketing and branding can help save the planet.

Sustainable Energy Brands - Helping to Save the Planet is published by Routledge and launched yesterday at the Embassy of Iceland in London.
